IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR THE 2009 SEASON

Due to the opening of Flat Rock Elementary, CQL inquired if we would be fielding three football teams for the upcoming 2009 football season. CQL teams are based upon the elementary school zone that the player resides in, regardless of the school he/she attends. The PYAA Football Board, after examining school enrollment at each of the three elementary schools and the actual residences of the players from 2008, made the decision to field two football teams for 2009.

Based upon the information examined, the decision was made to field teams from the Flat Rock Elementary School zone and the Pocahontas Elementary School zone. This does not mean that the Powhatan Chiefs no longer exist. We have decided to not field a Powhatan Chiefs team for the 2009 season.

The question then becomes what happens with those players that reside in the Powhatan Elementary School Zone?

The students who actually reside in the Powhatan Elementary School zone are deemed (under CQL Rules) to be “Open” Players. They have the option of signing up to play for either the Flat Rock Warriors or the Pocahontas Tribe. There is a limit of 8 open players per team(both Tribe and Warriors)  for minors, juniors and seniors. (The CQL Rule states that an open player may elect to play on any team in the Division i.e. Flatrock, Pocahontas, Midlothian, Robious, etc.)

Please know that the PYAA Football Board and all of the coaches will do everything possible within the rules set forth by CQL to insure that every child from Powhatan County that wants to play football has a spot on one of the two teams.
